Alba: A Wildlife Adventure is an open-world adventure game developed by Ustwo Games. The game focuses on exploring the world and conserving the wildlife.
On the website, the game is framed as re-creating the sense of wonder and relaxation of a child’s summer holiday and focusing on positive feedback loops as a “feel-good game about running around and doing good deeds”.
In the game, the mayor and his business partner announce that instead of reviving the neglected nature reserve, which according to them is beyond saving, they will be building the world’s largest luxury hotel on top of it. The looming risk of biodiversity loss and the extinction of certain animal species, encourage Alba and her friend Inès to start a petition to try and stop the construction of this hotel. To gain signatures the player has to carry out a number of different environmentally responsible actions, such as: recycling litter, fixing broken birdhouses and filling bird feeders.
Since the release of Alba: A Wildlife Adventure, developers UsTwo and publisher Plug In Digital, have been working with social enterprise Ecologi to sustainably plant one tree for every copy sold, with the goal of reaching one million. Distributor GOG contributed to this campaign with a Black Friday flash deal in 2021, doubling the base amount of trees planted for each copy sold on GOG during that period.
