Garbage Country

The work-in-progress Steam page describes Garbage Country as “a post-apocalyptic exploration sim from the creator of Cloud Gardens and Kingdom: New Lands” in which players “drive across a handcrafted wasteland[,] repel waves of enemy bots in tense tower-defense battles [and] upgrade [their] car to travel further into the forgotten world buried under the dust”.

The game utilizes the chronotope of the road trip through a barren wasteland loosely linked to a climate catastrophe and, according to the website, primarily aims to establish an atmosphere characterized by “dust, the ruins, the silence, the open road, and the haunting remnants of a long-forgotten past.”

In terms of gameplay, it is reminiscent of early Noio games, particularly the Kingdom series, but translates these elements into a three-dimensional gameworld and a more explicitly climate-themed scenario.
